Why Buy LHG Rain Jacket?

Keeping dry in the rain while hiking is more than just a challenge.  You either get wet from the outside by the rain or you get wet from sweat from the inside.

Even though “waterproof breathable” jackets are a truly novel technology and work well in the laboratory, they just don’t seem to work in the field.  Dirt and dust from the trail will clog numerous pores in the external fabric, your pack and straps cover a significant portion jackets surface area preventing vapor transfer, and the rain drops also cover another large portion of the remaining surface of the jacket.  These “waterproof breathable” products require a DWR (Durable Water Repellent) coating that washes off over time and use and must be renewed periodically to regain water repellency.  Most of these DWR coatings contain PFAS (often referred to as “forever chemicals”) and may contaminate groundwater.   These jackets will often wet-out over time.

LightHeart Gear’s ultra-light PFAS-free rain jackets are made from a permanently waterproof Polyester material with a Silicone coating on the outside and a polyurethane coating on the inside, which is purposefully non-breathable.  All of the seams are seam taped and the extra large pit-zips utilize waterproof zippers.  The generous pit-zips provide guaranteed breathability when necessary and also allow you to slip your arms out of them to essentially wear the garment as a vest when desired.  A roomy hood capable of having a hat or cap underneath and a small flexible brim help keep the rain off your face.

Great Jacket, Wish There Was a Woman's Fit

This jacket was exactly what I was looking for after years of more expensive, "breathable" jackets wetting out! I do wish there was a woman's fit available. I'm 5' 1" and 110 lbs, and I went with the XS. I'm glad I did, I think the S would have been way too large, especially through the shoulders and sleeves. However, it's a little tight in the chest (not noticeably so, but I probably couldn't layer a puffy under it). It also bunches up a bit around my hips, rather than coming down to cover them.

Fantastic service - Made in 🇺🇸 product

Ordered this rain jacket based on a review from a trusted backpacking resource. Had issues with the first jacket - sleeves were way too short (6’5” / long arm user). Joshua was quick to react and Inplaced a new order with custom sleeves (+ 3”). Made and shipped in <48 hrs. Amazing service. That’s what we all expect from companies based in and producing products in the USA. Did I pay more? YES. Would I do it again? ABSOLUTELY! Thank you.

Great, aside from the sleeves being oddly short, as I’ve seen mentioned in other reviews. It does the job, but if you layer under it, you need to pull sleeves up of lower layers to not get them wet and have water slowly absorb further up the arm.
